Your content belongs to you — always
Everything you upload or write on eTernal — your photos, videos, words, stories, and memories — is yours. Full stop.
eTernal does not claim ownership of your content. We store and display it on your behalf. We will never sell it, share it, or use it for advertising. It exists on our platform only to serve you and your family.
You may request a copy of your content at any time by contacting us at hello@eternal.love. We'll provide an export of your written stories and photos; some content — such as voice recordings or Life Stewardship Vault materials — may not be included.
What eTernal owns
eTernal owns the platform itself — the design system, templates, story-prompt framework, software, and the published site infrastructure. These are the tools we've built to help you tell a great story; they're not yours to copy or redistribute, but you're not here to do that anyway.
How hosting works
Building and editing your legacy is always free. Hosting — keeping your legacy publicly live and shareable with a link — requires an active hosting subscription ($15/month or $149/year).
When your subscription is active, your legacy site is live and accessible to anyone you share the link with.
If your subscription lapses or is cancelled, your legacy is taken offline (the public link stops working) but your content is kept on your account — we don't remove it on lapse. When you resubscribe, your site comes back online with the content you last saved. This retention does not apply if you request deletion of your account or content (see Your Rights in our Privacy Policy).
We don't delete your content when you lapse
We want to be crystal clear about this:
- ✓If you cancel your subscription, your content is kept on your account — not deleted by us.
- ✓If your payment fails, your content is kept on your account — not deleted by us.
- ✓If you resubscribe later, your site returns with the content you last saved (a new checkout is required after cancellation).
- ✓You can request a copy of your written stories and photos at any time, regardless of subscription status.
None of this applies if you ask us to delete your account or content — we will remove your data as described in the "Your Rights — Data Deletion" section of our Privacy Policy.
Privacy & access
All legacy sites are private by default. Only people with your unique share link can access them — there's no public directory, no search engine indexing, no way for strangers to find your family's legacy.
You control who can view and contribute to your legacy at all times.
eTernal Guided & eTernal Signature services
For our eTernal Guided and eTernal Signature tiers, content created by our team (interviews, writing, editing, tribute films) on your behalf becomes part of your legacy. The final content is yours to keep. The source materials, session notes, and internal working files remain eTernal's.
The Signature process uses structured life-story conversations and guided reflection for writing purposes. It is not a psychological evaluation, personality assessment, psychological testing, diagnosis, psychotherapy, treatment, or prediction, and it does not create a psychologist-patient relationship.
Changes to these terms
If we make meaningful changes to these terms — especially anything affecting ownership or content retention — we'll email you in advance. We'll always do right by you.
eTernal is a legacy storytelling and website service founded by a psychologist. Although the process may feel reflective, meaningful, or emotionally supportive, it is not psychotherapy and does not create a psychologist-patient relationship.
